We Made It!

Well, we met up at SFO and started the adventure. Check in and then the lounge and finally, my favorite thing . . . Making a left turn at the door of a 747. That, of course, means that there is champagne directly ahead and the party is ready to begin. Champagne, dinner, cheese, more champagne and then to sleep. Then breakfast and we were on approach into Paris and a transfer to our flight to Milan. I had a couple of people warn me about Air France, but our experience was wonderful. The cabin was comfortable, the food was good and most amazing, the flight attendants were charming [this is where AF gets is less than stellar reputation]. One the one hour flight to Milan they even served a cold lunch and more champagne, a big change from US carriers now. Once in Milan we found the rental car desk, got our keys, and then made a very long trek to the parking lot and our Mercedes station wagon that Jeff had reserved.

The drive to Bellagio was uneventful until . . .
We got up into the mountains and started on the road to Bellagio which was about six inches wider than two small cars, with a rock wall on one side and a cliff to the lake on the other. So Jeff had to be careful not to break off the door mirror when he got close to the wall avoiding oncoming traffic [some people were driving motor homes, taking up more than their share of the limited space]. Finally we found the town, and after a couple of tries, the road to the hotel [which was one way and even more narrow] and were on final approach to the hotel. After a harrowing drive down a steep hill with houses, shops and people on both sides of us [many eating gelato and not sharing] we made a right turn through the gate of the Villa Serbelloni and were instantly in paradise.

Well, its morning now and there are things to do.

We'll talk later!

  1. Those roads sound very familiar! But is anyone can navigate them and do it calmly it's dad. Way to go!
I hope today the sun is shining, the horizon is clear over the water, and the gelato is refreshing--shame on those pedestrians for not sharing.
I'm sure you already had a fine dinner last night and more great food is in store. Can't wait to hear more.
p.s. Grandpa is just fine and we've had a fun weekend. He frequently says, "I hope mama's having fun."

  2. James,

Sounds like you are having a great time! Eva and I just got back from visiting Lucy tonight, she's doing well and she loved playing with the feathers on a string! I think we broke the ice with Lucy, she now lets us pet her.

    Have a great time,

    Bernard and Eva

  4. I hope your sunburn is better - maybe one of the many wait staff you're enjoying would slather you with hand picked aloe plant juice....so glad you're enjoying the snobbo hotel!
